can i use my carpal tunnel sleep splints as wrist braces if i remove the metal?

just as the title says. i recieved sleep splints for my carpal tunnel but i will need braces soon as my wrists are getting worse. i might not be able to affors wrist braces and the metal comes off off my splints, is it possible to take the metal off and use them as braces?
