Why are Mexicans so hostile to no sabos, especially darker ones?
I've noticed that Mexicans tend to react negatively to me as a Mexican American whose first language is English. I find it really strange how Mexicans seem to believe that all ethnic Mexicans need to have perpetual loyalty to Los Pinos.
Aren't Mexicans descended from people who stopped being something else? If descended from basque or Galician people who stopped speaking their languages and assumed a new identity?
It also pairs really nastily with colorism because they laugh at darker skinned "no sabos." What about the Mexican education system causes people to make fun of "prieto no sabos?" They almost seem offended in a way that doesn't exist for lighter skinned Mexican Americans.
It's even more ironic when you realize that a lot of these darker Mexicans have only had the Spanish language in their family for a few generations. Some learned in the late 1800s, some in the WW2 years, some even more recently.
If anyone should be shamed for being a no sabo, it should be criollo Mexicans. They've had Spanish in their family for a thousand years. But if you're a blue eyed Hispanic, they have no issue with you speaking English and presenting as American.
