2015 AC Issues. Diagnosed as evaporator core leak.

I’e had front AC issues repeatedly over the last year. Symptom has generally been the driver’s side blowing hot, passenger side noticeably cooler. Sometimes improves after driving on the freeway.

First occasion I was told something had come loose and it was reattached.

Second occasion the shop just did a recharge.

After it returned 4 months ago a full diagnostic was done and I was told the compressor was leaking and needed replacing. I went ahead with an expensive repair and everything was fine until recently.

After today’s inspection I’ve been told the evaporator core is now leaking and needs replacing. They are quoting $3,800 which is based on 15 hours of labor. I’m still in shock and frustrated. I’m in SoCal so this couldn’t have happened at a worse time.

I think I’m going to shop around. Anything I should be aware of that might be helpful navigating this?
