Dads, what books do you like?
Dad of young kids here (3 & 1). Well, after what feels like several, several years of hardly reading any full-length books in their entirety for leisure purposes, I’m less than 100 pages away from finishing one. Made me a little sad/embarrassed that it’s been so long. I used to enjoy leisure reading when I was a kid (Harry Potters, etc), then probably sometime in mid-high school through college I kind of only read required materials. I admit I’ve fallen victim to other distractions (iPhone, etc.) and just had many other hobbies that came first pre-kids (watching sports, getting out and about, etc). I want to read more for several reasons. Increase focus and concentration, healthy distress, for my kids actually see me reading as they grow up and not just looking at my phone, etc.
The book I’m about to finish is The Martian (no spoilers please still finishing up). Great read, now I’ll be looking for the next. I used to read a ton of John Grisham and tried but didn’t finish the Firm sequel, The Exchange (maybe I’ll try again just wasn’t drawn in as much). I’m open to any suggestions! I realize the Martian author has Project Hail Mary, but I might pivot to something else.
Also, just to clarify, I’m talking about books actually to read, not audiobooks.
Let me know what y'all like!
