A performative tongue?

My wife and son (Anna and Alex) stick their tongues out and kind of wriggle them around when they are doing something with their hands, like solving a Rubik’s Cube. It doesn’t seem like it’s voluntary; it just kind of happens.

My Daughter and I (Emma and Glen) don’t do this, and we’ve been debating whether it’s a genetic trait or if “some people” are just performative tongue weirdos?
