Should I ask my husband to change our prenup before I become a SAHM, even though I completely trust him?

I’m 26F married and we have an 11-month-old baby. I’m thinking about becoming a SAHM and I’m wondering if I should ask my husband to make some changes to our prenup for my protection.

My husband is honestly amazing. He’s loving, caring, supportive generous and a wonderful father. Our marriage is genuinely very happy and we’ve never had any major issues. I love him so much and I completely trust him.

I talked to him about becoming a SAHM and he actually said he would love it. He thinks it would be good for me our baby and our whole family. But he also told me it’s my decision and that he would support me either way, whether I want to stay home or continue working now or later.

Financially there is a very large difference between us. He can easily support our family, so I’m not worried about being provided for during the marriage.

What I’m worried about is myself if something unexpected happened years down the road.

If I become a SAHM, I would be giving up my career, income, career progression, retirement savings, professional experience and future earning potential. If we ever divorced after I had spent years out of the workforce, I could be in a much more vulnerable position than I am today.

I’m not trying to get his wealth or take advantage of him. I just want some financial protection for myself before I make the decision to leave my career and become financially dependent on him.

The part I’m struggling with is that I’m scared he’ll think, “Why do you need protection? Our marriage is perfect.” I don't want him to feel like I don't trust him or that I'm planning for us to divorce. I genuinely believe we will be together forever, and I would never want to hurt him.

But at the same time, I feel like loving and trusting my husband and protecting myself can both be true.
