Galti ho gayi thi humse,

galti, ho gayi thi humse.

Main titli use gulab maan baitha tha,

main titli use gulab maan baitha tha—

dosti ko pyaar maan baitha tha.

Un aankhon ne moh liya tha humein,

un keson ne pakda tha humein.

Saath samay de deta agar,

toh saat samundar paar kar deta.

Khair, woh toh chali gayi,

nishaan-e-dil pe chhod gayi.

Alag thi woh,

kaha na, kuch alag thi woh.

Saath thi, par susheel nahi,

naatak bade the, lekin dimaag nahi.

Pyaar sabse karti thi,

par pyaar bhi nahi karti thi.

Sundarta ki woh devi thi,

par gussa bada karti thi.

Ab aur kitna bulwaoge, mitron?

Uski baatein khatam nahi hoti,

samay kam pad jaata hai.

“Abhi jaana padega,” bolke,

mann mein kyun reh jaati hai?

Main toh theek hoon,

bas dil toota hai.

Judna hoga toh jud jaayega,

warna aise hi jeena hai.

Translation if its not understandable -

The poem is about **mistaking friendship for love and dealing with the quiet aftermath of losing that person**.

The narrator looks back and admits that he **mistook a “butterfly” for a rose**—he saw something beautiful and fleeting but believed it was something permanent, and confused friendship with love. He was captivated by her eyes and hair and feels that, had he been given more time with her, he would have gone to any length for her.

But she eventually left, leaving behind an emotional mark.

He then describes her contradictions: she was beautiful and affectionate, but temperamental; lively and dramatic, but not always sensible; someone who seemed to love everyone, yet perhaps never truly loved anyone. Despite all her flaws, she was **different**, and that difference is what made her memorable.

The poem then becomes almost humorous and self-aware. His friends keep asking him about her, and he realizes that **he can never seem to finish talking about her**. Even when she says she has to leave, she somehow remains in his mind.

Finally, he accepts the situation without making it overly dramatic:

**He is okay. His heart is simply broken.**
If it heals, it will heal. If it doesn't, he'll learn to live with it.

So, at its heart, the poem is about **unrequited/failed love, nostalgia, acceptance, and the strange way someone can leave your life while still remaining in your mind.**
