Need the truth about Benidorm, Spain

Hi All, I'm 33F American and have been curious about Benidorm lately. I follow a lot of travelers/solo travelers on Youtube and Instagram but have never seen anyone post a video or content about Benidorm. From what I've been able to gather, it sounds like a place filled with British tourists. When I look at aerial photos of Benidorm it looks like an incredible beachside city. When I look at street-level images of Benidorm, I see only people who look over age 65. It almost looks like a retirement home took over the area. Is this really what it's like? Is it overrun with British tourists and elderly people? I wanted to take a fun trip there with my boyfriend, but we like to be around other people around our age group. Nothing wrong with the elderly of course. I'd just like to know what to expect before we start planning a visit there. Thanks in advance.
