Origin of the term "Cupcake"? (noob asking)

I'm very new to the world of college football (not sure whether I can call myself a "fan" because I lack a connection to any specific team but I can see myself semi-keeping up with it from a distance) and I've heard the term "cupcake" used to describe games between power conference schools and either group-of-six schools or FCS schools. I haven't been able to find the term's origin, can anyone enlighten me?
