Calling every search box and automatic filter artificial intelligence has made it nearly impossible to explain which features I actually object to without sounding insane during a completely normal conversation

SpoilerDiscussion 🗣️

At work, a basic keyword matcher was renamed an “AI assistant” even though it behaves the same way as the old filter. Meanwhile a new writing tool sends text somewhere outside our system and generates confident garbage, but both sit under the same AI label.

When I push back on the second one, people start defending spellcheck and search suggestions as if I demanded calculators be destroyed. The vague label seems useful mainly because it blurs old automation together with generative systems that carry completely different risks. Is there better language for seperating ordinary software from the stuff people are actually arguing about?
