Pet won’t follow, “I cannot do it now” ?

I just got the pets DLC for Switch and the dog in the attic randomly glitched to the bathroom even though I had “stay” selected. I went back to the office and noticed he wouldn’t follow me around though I had it selected for follow. I tried a few things and finally put him in the pet hotel and adopted another dog hoping the glitch would be fixed, no luck. Same situation. When I try to interact I get the drop down box in the top left that says “I cannot do it now”, also I can not place him inside the office. It says there’s no room. I bought the DLC for the extra furniture mostly but having a dog seemed cool too. I am thinking maybe it’s just not going to work at all.
