7.5 or back to 5.0
I started Zep at the end of April. My endocrinologist recommended it after I’d gained a ton of weight over the past few years. I was diagnosed with Hashimoto’s in August 2022 and it really wreaked havoc on my body.
I was 182 in April.. the heaviest I’ve ever been. I’ve always fluctuated with my weight, with my thinnest (virtually cutting all carbs and strictly monitoring my overall diet) about 10 years ago I was around 118. Granted, at that time I was 22, in grad school, and I just think my body was different.
Prior to my Hashi diagnosis I had probably gone up to 150 and down to 130 and fluctuated between there. But 182 for me was extremely unsettling. I’m only 5’1 so it was a ton of weight for me to be carrying. I felt awful.
I started with 4 weeks at 2.5, 4 weeks at 5, and have been sticking with 7.5 the past 11 or so weeks. I am down to 146, so that’s an overall 35-pound weight loss in 19 weeks.
I already had an appt with an NP from my endo’s office at the beginning of June, who said I definitely should not go up past 7.5 since I was losing weight quickly. However, throughout the summer, I’m wondering if it would be better for me to go back to 5. I’m beginning to notice a lot of hair loss, which I know could be related to my diet and the rapid weight loss.
Of course, I’m happy to be heading back in the right direction with my weight. But I want to make sure I’m taking care of my body. I have my next appt scheduled with my endo soon. I just wanted to know if anyone has experienced something similar, and in your case, did you stick with your current dose or go back down?
Thank you!! This page has helped me ton.
