Anyone get a clinical placement for their first internship then a medical hospital for their second? Looking for advice.

I haven’t applied to any MSW programs yet. But I want my second internship to be at a hospital because I want to eventually work in the pain neuroscience field as an LCSW.

Is it reasonable to expect to find a first placement in outpatient community mental health, a substance use and addiction treatment facility, or medical case management/community health clinic?

This would be my first year internship.

For my second year, I would want to do outpatient neurology/neurology unit, outpatient pain management center, or integrated primary care clinic.

I can apply this fall for fall 2027 and get a head start on finding placements with my school.

Does this sound feasible based on your experience and observations?

What can I do to increase my chances of landing these placements?
