I had a few young children in my backyard today (one of them being mine) and they were messing around with some super soakers. My son came up and asked, “is it okay to put water down the white thing?” Turns out he was talking about the white PVC furnace exhaust pipe and it turns out my niece had been squirting the super soaker into the pipe. As my sister and I were trying to figure out how much water had gone in, my other niece put a small stone in the same pipe before anyone could stop her.

Here’s what I believe happened, based on the unreliable narrators that are toddlers and preschoolers:
\- Possibly up to 5 cups of water was super soakered into the white exhaust pipe
\- I did physically see a stone inserted into the white exhaust pipe
\- my niece also tried to super soaker water into the black pipe but “it came back out” (due to the angle)

Here’s what I did:
\- turned off the furnace and fan
\- called the furnace company but didn’t get a call back before they closed for the weekend
\- I took the two panels off the furnace and there is indeed some water that has dripped from possibly the black pipe and gotten the outside of the motor a bit drippy

I’m not sure where all the water has gone once it entered the exhaust pipe from outside?

Here’s what I see:
\- drips of water on the internal furnace components (for lack of better words)
\- some water pooled on the floor of the upper compartment
\- a small puddle of water on the floor of the bottom compartment

So uh, how screwed are we? What should I be expecting from a technician coming out next week? I’m very much hoping this didn’t just kill the furnace.

Thank you in advance!

Water + a rock put into furnace exhaust pipe, help please!
