Groovie walking

Discussion

Hello my fellow drummers, I wanted to share a problem I'm having and ask if you've experienced it too, and how you solve it.

With Spotify's latest feature of mixing songs into playlists, I created a playlist that's basically one long song, several hours long, so I listen to it constantly while walking. I like to make sure the first beat lands on my right foot, like any good drummer. This way, I can keep up with the rhythm of the entire playlist without stopping, and my steps are always in sync with the drums.

Here's the problem. When I have to stop or slow down for any reason, my steps become out of sync with the music, and sometimes my steps end up reversed (my right foot landing on the second beat). I have several "techniques" to get back to normal, like slowing down to triplets or something similar, so that on the next beat, my foot lands on the first beat again. Or for example, doing a skip and my right foot landing twice in a row to hit the 4 and 1 again.

Does this happen to you too? How do you fix it?
