Is it worth switching to nursing?

Nursing School

Hi everyone. I’m hoping to get some honest advice from nurses in Toronto/GTA. Please be kind, as I’m already going through a really difficult time financially and personally.

I’m currently at a career crossroads. I have a background in Economics, Finance and Law and 2 years of experience working at a startup across operations, client success, finance, HR, contracts/compliance and project management. Unfortunately, after months of applying, I haven’t been able to find work and I have a family to provide for.

I’m now seriously considering going back to school for nursing and becoming an RN. However, it would mean taking on a significant loan, and given my family’s current financial situation, I really can’t afford to make that investment unless there is a good chance of stable employment afterwards.

For nurses/new grads in the GTA, how difficult is it actually to find an RN job right now? If I’m flexible about specialty, hospital, LTC, community, etc., can I be reasonably confident that I’ll find work after graduating and passing the NCLEX?

I’d really appreciate honest experiences, especially from recent graduates. I’m just trying to make the best decision I can for my family. Thank you 🙏
