FFXI-like games?

I'm looking for an MMO (or maybe an offline RPG) with slower, more tactical combat and deep gearing systems. I'm trying to avoid GCD or action-combat games; I much prefer fights that are knowledge or gear checks rather than reflex-based ones.

I know FFXI is still alive (and I play it to this day), so I'm just looking for something similar. I've heard Dragon Quest X is pretty similar... anyone have thoughts on that?

In the offline space, games like Xenoblade or FF12 are pretty close to what I'm looking for. Any other suggestions?
