Why ventilated foam toppers stay cooler throughout the night

One thing I've learned after years in the bedding business is that "cooling" can mean very different things depending on the construction of the topper.

Ventilated foam is designed with channels, holes, or other openings that can improve airflow through the material. This can help heat and moisture move away from the sleeping surface more effectively than a completely solid piece of dense foam.

That doesn't mean a ventilated topper will magically feel cold. Your sheets, mattress protector, room temperature, body temperature, and even the bed frame can all influence how warm the overall setup feels.

I've had customers buy an expensive "cooling" topper and then cover it with several layers of dense bedding, wondering why they still sleep hot.

If temperature is your main concern, I recommend looking beyond the word ventilated. Check the foam construction, cover material, breathability, and what you'll be putting on top of it.

In my experience, good airflow is one part of the solution not the entire solution.

A topper that allows heat to escape can certainly help, but the whole sleep setup needs to work together.
