I need help with a friendship I want to end.
Me and this person met in January and we haven’t had the best friendship. We’ve gotten into arguments and I have felt stressed about it all as well.
It first started feeling rocky when she would say and do things that made me uncomfortable and even mad. She would say things like I love you, she called me at late hours and would stay on the phone for a long time. I had to be the one to hang up. She trauma dumped a lot one of the first times we talked to each other.
She also got mad at me when I had to go spend time with my family and get off the phone with her. Although I will admit I did not speak to her much in class that day. It was just busy.
It also upsets me that she got mad even though were had known each other for little time. I feel like you should respect someone’s personal time when you first are talking to them.
All this made me upset so I asked a friend for advice. He said that she probably liked me and that I should confront her about it. So I did but she said she didn’t like me. I believe I apologized for thinking that. Then I told her that I didn’t want to be her friend but she kept saying sorry and that she wouldn’t do it anymore and that she still wanted to be my friend. I tried to say no but she kept texting me so I just told her I’ll talk to her when I’m school.
A couple months passed and we would hang out on campus and in class. I just tried to forget about the things that upset me and it was fine for a bit. One day she invited me to one of her family members homes but I declined.
This led to an argument because she said something along the lines of “Are you never going to hang out with me.” I believe I told her “why would I hang out with you if you’ve said things that made me uncomfortable.” I don’t really remember because it was a while ago.
We continued to argue and she said you judge me because of my disability which I wasn’t and never did. If I’m being honest i didn’t know she had one and it wasn't obvious to me that she did.
Maybe that’s wrong of me but I still feel like with all the other stuff she told me thats something she would’ve mentioned plus she only brought it up during this argument and I felt like she was trying to make me feel like a bad person.
After this we started hanging out again and it was fine for a while. Later on after classes ended I apologized for all our arguments and for not recognizing her disability. She said she forgives me and that we are still friends.
It’s been about a month since then and we haven’t spoken. After all that I really don’t want to be her friend anymore I think I just said that in the heat of the moment when I apologized.
I guess it’s because of the stress of it all, wondering if I’m being a bad person, or the fact that I haven’t been able to truly forgive some of the things she told me but I feel this friendship really hasn’t been good for me.
I honestly have no interest in being her friend anymore but I will feel bad about telling her. I cant ghost her forever because I told her that I would be her friend again. I also feel that she would get mad if I told her and assume that I’m judging her again.
Should I tell her that I really don’t want to be her friend? I really feel like I must because I lied when I said that I do want to. I also don’t want to hurt her feelings. And I’m very tired of this relationship and want it to be over but I just don’t know what to do.
