To hysterectomy or not
I’m 28 and have a history of heavy, irregular, painful periods. I’ve tried many birth control methods since I was a teenager: various forms of the pill, hormonal IUD, copper IUD. Two years ago they found a fibroid when removing my IUD and removed it. It grew back within a year and I also have another one now, too. My largest one is against my uterine wall, so they suspect it’s been causing increased bleeding during my periods.
Most recently I was in the emergency room from such heavy menstrual bleeding and clotting after trying w new BCP to skip my periods (due to their pain, heaviness, etc.) I was significantly anemic and it was a frightening experience for me (the most blood I’ve ever seen come out of me).
It’s been a two year journey to find a birth control that doesn’t make my periods even worse/more painful. In my most recent conversation with my doctor, they did bring up the option of a hysterectomy. Does anyone have advice on if that helped them or not? I have never wanted to be pregnant and I’m 90% certain I do not want kids. I’ve always thought if I did change my mind, I can adopt, but I’ve never had that desire to be a mom so I am considering this option. I’m so tired of the trial and error with all the different birth controls and the toll it’s taken on my body when nothing seems to be working and would like to hear about those who’ve gone the hysterectomy route. Thank you in advance
