It’s been a little while since we got this story arc but I was curious as to how people felt about this concept. When the emotional spectrum fractured we got a few new “lanterns”/“lights/“emotions” but ever since that story arc wrapped up we haven’t seen any of them since.

I remember thinking Sorrow was pretty interesting and felt unique from the rest of the emotional spectrum and Nathan had enough potential to be his own reoccurring character so it’s a shame that he was shelved. I can see the Grey Sorrow lantern returning the most out of all these guys.

As for the other three fractured lanterns, they were kinda meh imo. Disgust was an interesting concept and probably could have stood on its own but they started to build up lore for its user and never went anywhere with it. Aidia being an old enemy of the Specter was a cool idea but there wasn’t a payoff to it. And Disgust as its own emotion/light wasn’t bad either but another issue was the fact that they never specified an actual consistent color for him. In each appearance he has a different color tied to him so i’m not sure if he was supposed to be brown, brass, bronze, or copper. But either way it’s hard to be invested in a character that the writers clearly don’t care enough about to even give a consistent color scheme let alone character development.

As for “Jealousy” and “Envy” these have to be the weakest of the Fractured Lanterns. First of all they aren’t unique in color or emotion. I understand this might be the point as the fractured emotions are likely stemming from the larger emotions, just as smaller aspects of them. But they could have at least specified what color they represent for the readers. Jealousy seems to be magenta which i guess is different from Violet (and tbf most of the time the star sapphires aren’t even violet like they’re supposed to be) but Envy is just straight up Yellow. I also think that Envy as an emotion is too similar to both Jealousy and Avarice. Disgust and Sorrow are at least their own unique emotions and one could make the argument for Jealousy, but Envy is straight up unoriginal. The least they could have done would’ve been Resentment but a much better choice would have been Sloth or Gluttony.

So i’d love to hear how you guys feel about all of this. I know some aren’t fond of the idea of more lantern characters and the whole emotional/color spectrum but I think it’s fascinating when done right. Do you guys want any of theee characters/“emotions” to return and if so which ones? Or do you guys think we should pretend none of this ever happened?
