Unsure whether I'm (FTM) overreacting about my cis gf's behavior...
When I first met her (I hadn't realized I was a man yet), she said she was straight. Then, she started questioning because she began to like me. We got together when I was still a girl, me being the first girl she'd ever liked. During the beginning of our relationship she began gravitating towards the lesbian label (not explicitly, like she never exactly came out as lesbian to me but I could tell she was excited about it, even made her an orange and pink keychain once). I think it gave her comfort to have that kind of community, especially because her experiences with men in life haven't been too great.
Well, during our relationship I began questioning my gender. First I thought I was a demigirl, then nonbinary... slowly I realized I was a man. My transition was kinda tough on us. She sort of freaked out when I wanted to cut my hair and I wasn’t sure she would still want to be a relationship with me. I was scared to tell her about moving from enby to trans man given her bad reaction. But eventually we got over it and she assured me she would love me no matter what and support me.
Things have gotten way better between us now, but I still sometimes notice some things that she says that make me feel a little nervous or insecure that she doesn’t really see or love me as a man. She has told me that she wouldn’t date me if I were a cis straight man or even a cis bi man. She talks about how I “turned” her gay and then “turned” her straight again. Whenever she talks about hear me outs or celebrity crushes, she mostly talks about women. The few men she mention are ALL trans (not an exaggeration).
I don’t know. Maybe I’m overreacting about this, but sometimes I worry she’s with me because she doesn’t see me as a real man.
