Alaska Air/Avianca Trip
Yes. The information is already clear, but I’d smooth out a few sentences and make the timeline a little easier to follow. I’d also keep the casual, helpful tone since it sounds like you’re sharing a personal experience with other travelers.
When I bought my tickets, I couldn’t find much information that really helped me understand what to expect, so I figured I’d share what I just experienced in case it helps someone else.
I purchased a flight to MDE through the Avianca website. The itinerary included two Alaska Airlines flights, one on the way there and one on the way back. Avianca gave me the option to fly Alaska Airlines from my home city to MIA, then take Avianca from MIA to MDE, and then reverse that route on the way home.
I purchased the entire itinerary through the Avianca website, and after I paid, I received an Avianca confirmation code.
I then contacted Alaska Airlines and explained that I had an upcoming flight and needed the Alaska confirmation code so I could add the trip to my Alaska app. They gave me the code, and the flights immediately showed up under my “Trips.”
On the day of travel, I checked in with Alaska Airlines at the airport. They checked my luggage and tagged it all the way through to my final destination. There was no self transfer or need to collect and recheck my bag in MIA.
I did have to check in separately through the Avianca app to get my Avianca boarding pass, but that process was pretty seamless.
And when I arrived in MDE, my checked bag was there waiting for me!
I know I was looking for this exact information before my trip, so I hope this helps anyone else who is wondering what to expect when booking an Avianca itinerary with Alaska Airlines flights included.
