What summer heat tells you about your bedroom environment

Your bedroom can reveal problems that other rooms hide.

After years of hearing complaints about bedrooms being unbearable in summer, I’ve learned to check more than the thermostat. I look at window exposure, insulation, supply airflow, return airflow, and whether the door remains closed for long periods.

A bedroom receiving afternoon sun can behave very differently from the hallway outside it.

If the bedroom is consistently warmer, don’t immediately assume the air conditioner needs to be colder. First find out where the heat is entering and whether conditioned air is actually reaching the room.

That investigation often saves people unnecessary repairs.
