Roast my Obsidian journaling plugin – Simple Journal

I’ve been building a small Obsidian plugin called Simple Journal.

I use Obsidian a lot, but I never really liked journaling with one Daily Note per day. Sometimes I want to write 3-4 small entries during the day, and I also don’t want everything to turn into one huge note.

So Simple Journal creates each entry as a separate Markdown file, but shows them together in one timeline. You can just scroll, write a new entry, edit old ones, filter by tags and jump between days with the calendar.

The important part for me was keeping the files completely normal. There is no special database or format behind it. If you stop using the plugin, your entries are still just Markdown files in your vault.

It’s already published as an Obsidian Community Plugin and I’m still adding things to it, but I’m trying hard not to turn it into another complicated productivity tool.

My biggest concern is probably whether this solves a real problem for enough Obsidian users, or if I basically built a nicer interface for something Daily Notes already solves well enough.

Roast it. I’d rather hear what doesn’t make sense now than keep building features nobody needs.
