One thing I’ve learned about skincare is that **“don’t mix these ingredients” usually needs some context.** 😅

Salicylic acid is a BHA and a great ingredient for oily, acne-prone and congested skin, but once you start stacking it with several other strong actives, irritation can become the bigger issue.

Some combinations I’d personally be cautious with include:

🧪 **Salicylic acid + AHAs** — You’re combining exfoliating acids, which may be too much for some skin.

🌙 **Salicylic acid + retinoids** — Not automatically incompatible, but the combination can increase dryness, peeling and irritation.

🧴 **Salicylic acid + benzoyl peroxide** — Both can be useful for acne, but using them together may be drying depending on your skin and formulations.

🍊 **Salicylic acid + L-ascorbic acid** — They *can* technically coexist, but sensitive skin may find the combination irritating.

🧽 **Salicylic acid + physical exfoliation** — This is one I’d be especially careful with. Your skin doesn’t need to be scrubbed into submission after chemical exfoliation. 😭

And when several acne treatments are involved? **More isn’t automatically better.**

The goal isn’t to be scared of combining ingredients. It’s understanding your skin’s tolerance and avoiding unnecessary irritation.

Personally, I’d rather **alternate strong actives or use them at different times** and keep my barrier happy than try to squeeze everything into one routine.
