Clark and Tyler relationship

I was wondering why Clark was so distrustful of Tyler, who was after all a little lost kid. The show tries to establish some sort of evil aura around Tyler, but there really isnt anything to suggest this-and for Clark to have this very overreaching conclusion Tyler was like Arthur but destructive (not the film's wordings, but it was something along these lines) was quite surprising. When Clark says Elizabeth and Nick have to go- go where, and why? Was he thinking establishing himself as a guru so early on, and saw Tyler as an obstacle?
