Al-Kwarizmi (born around 780 – died around  850) was a mathematician active in the Golden Age of Islam and produced several groundbreaking works in astronomy, geography and mathematics.

He pushed the human understanding further by inventing or better reforming(?) Algebra, drawing from the vast resources of Babylonian, Greek, Hindu and Persian texts, to which he had access, because he worked at the House of Wisdom in Bagdad (The Grand Library).

I spare you the listing of his accomplishments, i want to talk more about his influences. We could maybe say, he was a major catalyst of the Renaissance, brewing silently the spirit over the centuries, in monasteries, archives and studies of the Holy Roman Catholic Church, hidden away from the access of the lower strata and aristocracy (wordly or clerical) through the language barrier alone, and that was only the first hurdle.

What else can we say? Lived very long for that age, although we have to take into account, that Bagdad at that time was on the top in medicine, offering a 24/7 hospital, with free service for those who could not pay, and not to forget, a backup of the best library in the world at that time. Compared to Europe, everyone would agree that, the medicinal situation in Bagdad was much better far beyond a simple comparison.

His research required four other languages at least and given his contribution to several fields in mathematics alone, the label 'Polymath' is justified.

I do not bore you with the connection of his name to the word Algorithm.

That is for others to do.

So. Thank you

Muhammad ibn Musa al-Khwarizmi.

Legend. Magico!
