How to properly take care of my laptop’s battery? (HP Elitebook 840 G5)

I recently bought a second-hand HP Elitebook 840 G5. I ruined my previous laptop’s battery completely because I kept it plugged in for almost 2 days straight. I’m scared to do the same thing to my new laptop. Do you guys have any tips on how to preserve and properly take care of my laptop’s battery? Is it okay to use it while charging, or should I wait until it’s fully charged?
