28F, Gynae resident — heartbreak, depression, and feeling like I’ll never find someone to marry
I’m 28F and currently doing my residency in Gynaecology. From the outside, things probably look fine — I’m a doctor, working towards my career, and trying to build a stable life.
But personally, I’ve been struggling a lot.
I recently went through a heartbreak, and it has affected me much more than I expected. I’ve been feeling lonely, emotionally exhausted, and increasingly worried that I’m going to end up alone.
Dating has already been difficult with residency. The hours are unpredictable, the workload is insane, and I barely have the time or energy to meet new people. Now that I’m 28, there’s also this constant pressure around marriage. Family keeps asking, relatives keep suggesting people, and every failed connection makes me feel like something is wrong with me.
I don’t want to marry just for the sake of getting married. I want someone I genuinely connect with — someone kind, emotionally mature, supportive, and willing to understand the demands of a medical career.
But lately I’ve started wondering whether I’m being unrealistic or whether I’ve simply missed my chance.
Has anyone here been in a similar situation — especially doctors who found their partner during or after residency?
How did you deal with the loneliness and the feeling that everyone else was moving ahead while you were stuck?
I could really use some perspective right now.
