You’re not thinking about the whole of history taught to kids. We have all been taught a version of history that isn’t necessarily the actual history. This is the issue not higher level education. Also Robert Maxwell was 100% responsible for the change to the journal system of publishing which wiped out the earlier system of peer review. Once that was instituted papers were locked behind journal publishing and it was a way to not only gatekeep science but also extract money out of universities and created the “publish or perish” culture in science that is horrifically broken.
