Few significant moments in Gilmore Girls when I realized that Rory would be a disappointment in later seasons + revival.
When I watched Gilmore girls for the first time many years ago and it was the infamous Pilot episode, S2 ep21 "Lorelai's graduation day" and her sleeping with Dean.
Now idk if I should say "disappointment" or not but I think hints were always there that she would be a burnout adult, ever since she was a literal kid all the way to the adulthood her whole worth was placed in her academics and how sher performed, a lot of people around her and saw her in that particular light and sure it can be said that she did feel the pressure but also I think this inflated her ego a lot like in later on seasons she was busy running back to her grandparents, getting a job at the DAR, her every fear she had in her dream becoming true like being the baby sitter for Paris, her rejecting a teaching job at Chilton because she thought she was "above" that.
She wanted to be a journalist and that job is absolutely for the thick skin because let's be honest along with the news they also have to sell a story and Mitchum's one comment which was fair and not even bad or too critical, she fell back.
But revising back to the two moments I think it was pretty evident how Rory literally hesitating to go to Chilton because she met Dean and her missing her own mother's graduation for a boy is also very telling how she is the type of person who is very male centric, sure there were other indications as well but the pilot episode and missing the graduation felt like the BIGGEST foreshadowing of how we will will witness the downfall of Rory Gilmore, also how in the pilot ep Lorelai talks to I guess Luke about how she and Rory are so close and never fought like this was also another foreshadow of how on the later seasons we see the mother daughter duo drift away slowly but still caring deeply for each other.
Her sleeping with Dean felt so out of place and uncomfortable but it made sense, I hated it but it does make sense because she wanted to go back to stars hollow because she had lost control of who she was and wanted her old life back.
One can also admit that Lorelai's graduation episode was like that because they wanted the focus on just her and her parents to show the audience of what "could've" been in an alternate timeline where Richard must've wanted her to go to Yale as well and see her graduate but still Rory going to NY to meet Jess...that plotline really made me uncomfortable.
