Did Gen X ever wear thongs

Following a post on r/millennials, it seems roughly 90% of repliers are still wearing them, most quoting that they find them the most comfortable and they hate pantylines. Someone even posted that millennials were the generation that adopted and embraced them. Is that true? What does Gen X have to say about that?
