So, I went to Michigan last weekend, to visit friends and attend an event there. I found that many of the things there that I saw had the same numbers on the price tag, or higher ones than here, but in USD rather than Canadian, so far more expensive in reality.

For example, my bud wanted a couple things from Walmart while I was visiting with him, so I went with him to the store. As we’re walking through their Walmart I noticed a couple things, as I’d been to our Walmart last week to get a couple pair of Wrangler pants and looked some other menswear deals while there.

First, I noticed the table of graphic t-shirts in Michigan, band shirts and pop and beer branded logos made to look old and worn, pretty much the exact same display at the Walmart in Ontario, many of the same shirts, maybe a couple different logos. The table in Michigan had a sign that said the shirts were $13. The same price as the Walmart in Ontario.

This caught my attention, I expected that sign to be a lower number because their dollar is “worth” so much more than ours. So I went into the menswear area to see if they had the pants that I’d already bought in Ontario, Wrangler cargo pants (yes I’m old) that cost me $29.99 at our Walmart.

Well sure enough, I found them, see photo. I saw the same golf/polo shirts for the same price as well, but then moved on.

Same products, same retailer, same price, but cheaper in Canada due to money conversion. Just a few examples I saw in my brief, passing “investigation”. There have to be more, this isn’t isolated to what I saw and what I saw it was 100% of the products

Has was $4.39 a gallon which works out to about $1.55 Cdn per little after conversion l, and I’d paid less than that at Costco in Ontario the week before crossing. It’s gone up since, but still.

I think we have to dispel the historical myth that crossing the border to shop is cheaper than staying in Canada. If the current toddler presidents tirades aren’t enough to motivate people to keep their money here, they need to know that it’s cheaper, so that takes away **any** need to go south.

I have found that it is cheaper to buy things in Canada that cross the border.
