At 35, am I still an figuring it out?
I’m 35 and lately I feel like I’m standing alone at a crossroads.
One road is me , my own life, work, ambitions, things I still want to build and fix about myself.
Another is my dad. He needs me emotionally more than he used to, and I know I can’t simply distance myself and say I have my own life to live.
And then there’s my wife and my marriage, a relationship that matters to me, but also needs its own time, attention and emotional space.
The strange part is that none of these roads is wrong. Nobody is the villain. I don’t want to abandon any of them.
But sometimes choosing one feels like neglecting another. And somewhere in all this, I’m not even sure how much of myself I’m supposed to keep for myself.
At 35 I thought I’d be much better at this. Instead, some days I feel like an amateur trying to manage three lives with one mind.
Does adulthood ever actually start feeling figured out? Or do you just become better at living with the fact that it isn’t?
