Electronic Pitch calling
Yesterday we played in a 10u tournament where the opposing team was using electronic pitch calling (overkill in my opinion, but to each their own). Our team didn’t think anything of it until we realized that a parent that was sitting behind the plate was calling pitches instead of a coach that was required to be in the dugout. At first I thought that the catcher was talking to one of her parents, but she was complaining about her earpiece to the person that was calling pitches.
Two questions:
- Is this allowed for a “coach” to be sitting right behind the backstop to call pitches?
- Can a random parent that does not go through a background check be allowed to coach the pitcher/catcher in a tournament?
