People who text “can I ask you a question?” Instead of just asking the question

I absolutely abhor this. Why are you texting me “can I ask you a question?” Instead of just asking the question.

And a good majority of time, the question they ask, is one that I wouldn’t have answered anyway.

But now I’m stuck giving some kind of answer cause I already said “yes” to their original stupid ass “can i ask you a question”.

It always feels like the other person is trying to trap me into giving information.
