Khao Sok or the north for jungle, if you only have time for one?

Trying to decide where to spend the trekking part of the trip. Khao Sok gets described as the more dramatic landscape with the lake and the karsts, and the north as better for actual walking and village stays. What I can't tell from photos is which one still feels remote once you are there versus which one has been fully processed into a day trip conveyor belt. If you have done both, which held up?
