I’m looking for advice from people who have been in a similar situation, especially anyone who has gone through their **first Canadian PR landing with a recently renewed passport**.
Here’s my situation:
I’m an Indian citizen.
I have received my **Canadian COPR (outland)**.
My Canadian PR visa/COPR is valid until **December 22, 2026**.
I’m planning to travel to Canada on **December 4, 2026**, so I’ll be entering before the expiry date.
My current Indian passport is valid until **March 2027**.
I’m considering whether I should renew my Indian passport before travelling.
My understanding is that if I renew it, I’ll get a **new passport number**, while my Canadian PR visa and COPR were issued with my **old passport number**.
So I have a few questions:
If I renew my Indian passport before travelling, can I enter Canada using **both my old passport (with the Canadian PR visa) and my new passport**?
Would the fact that my COPR/visa has my **old passport number** cause any problems during my first PR landing?
Has anyone here actually experienced this situation — **renewing their passport after receiving COPR/PR visa but before landing in Canada**?
Would you recommend that I **renew my Indian passport before travelling**, or simply travel on my current passport (valid until March 2027), complete my PR landing on December 4, and renew the Indian passport afterward in Canada?
If you renewed your passport before landing, did you face any issues with the airline, immigration, or CBSA?
I’m particularly interested in **real-life experiences**, rather than just the official rules.
Thanks in advance! 🙏
