What do you wish you knew before trying this for the first time?

My boyfriend and I have been discussing exploring this together, and we’re trying to figure out what would actually feel most natural for a first experience.

For those who’ve done it before, did you find it better to make an evening of it and meet for a drink or dinner first, or did you prefer keeping the first meeting more straightforward?
And when it came to choosing a place, did being somewhere familiar like home make you more comfortable, or did having a neutral place like a hotel make things easier?

I’m also curious about the little things people don’t necessarily think about beforehand like maybe how you handled the transition from meeting up to actually doing something, and what you did afterwards. Honestly anything would help since we’re newbies to this and I want to feel safe every step of the way especially knowing it’s a bit difficult for us women with all the creeps out there…
