Ecosystems of high control vs. ecosystems of low control

Have you ever experienced or heard a minister/pastor/layman volunteer express a disdain for when other churches “steal”, “pinch” or “coax” away people to their church?

Like the idea that “we invested so much into them, for them to leave us.”

I get it, that it’s natural to feel some form of investment cost that you sowed into individuals and you want to see a return on that investment in them making disciples and bringing more people into the fold, but to be annoyed when people, whom have free agency, leave your church, or they want to do other things, to say they aren’t “loyal” or they were pinched by other churches, to me it reeks.

What do you think this really reveals about the ecosystem you are in?
