Orion Pax never thought of himself as someone who would serve beyond his function. He was forged by the Allspark from a transport vehicle thought to serve in logistics and delivery. He would transport goods across Cybertron and along these trips, he would grow to admire the natural fauna of the planet. He saw signs of animal life whenever his deliveries would take him into Cybertron’s wilds.

It was during one delivery however when his career would take a turn. He was driving a load of cargo through the wilderness when a cyber-pest ran out onto the road ahead of him. He detached from his cargo, transformed and shielded the cyber-pest from the incoming cargo and traffic.

His stunt caused him to lose his job with delivery services. However, it also brought him to the attention of the wildlife conservationist sector and he was hired onto serve as a Reserve Ranger, a defender of Cybertron’s natural beauty and life that called it home. He was armed with arm-mounted blasters and a ranger’s Ion Blaster in the event that he would have to tangle with poachers or dangerous wildlife.
While heroic at his core, he would still find himself easily distracted from his duties. He would use about every opportunity he could to entertain himself while at work. He might try balancing his tools, doing burn-outs in secluded areas, making friends with the local wildlife and giving them treats they weren’t supposed to have. However, whenever duty called and there were reports of poaching in the areas he patrolled, he didn’t hesitate to put together a team to go investigate.

He was however under-experienced with combat. While he would be the first to mobilize the group, Kup would always be the one spouting orders. Kup was a veteran of the Cybertron-Quintesson war and he knew how to keep a group of mostly unblooded soldiers on track. Orion wasn’t a soldier but he knew what he had to do. The moment things got messy, Orion was the first to drag others into safety. He would rarely shoot-to-kill. Life was too precious for him. Nothing could prepare him for his first kill.

It was a fight like any other fight. The Reserve Rangers in armed conflict with a group of poachers. His fellow ranger Arcee was laying down covering fire to allow for Kup to advance upon the enemy position. Orion was taking cover and taking aim at the other side when he noticed a shadow sneaking its way behind Arcee. The shade suddenly bolted towards her and Orion took the shot. He had just saved her from an ambush but he had also just taken a life. Cloak was the target’s name. Orion took some time to himself to consider the ramifications of what he had done. Sure, he had to do it to save Arcee. But it felt wrong to kill something that did not want to die. Even with Kup smiling in the background giving a thumbs up for the kill, It did not feel like a victory. It felt like a loss for bot kind that they lived in a system that would make risking their lives to end other lives the cost of living. Surely there were alternate systems that did not require the poor eat at each other to survive.

There were books spreading across Cybertron faster than the government could stop them. “On Functionism: The Collected Writings of Megatron” became a most sought after publication. It compiled the thoughts of a mystery writer who had done a great deal of thinking and research into the topic of the Cybertronian Empire and how it could be reformed. But nobody knew who the bot behind the writings was for if he knew, the government would surely silence him.

But deep down in the mining pits of Kaon worked a diligent and intelligent bot of significant age named D-16. While he drilled and he picked, his mind was a flurry of thoughts as to how the system could change to benefit the bots at the bottom just as much as those at the top. “Every bot a Prime” he said to himself. During times of rest, he would write out his thoughts from the day and sign off those letters with the name “Megatron”. His miner allies would assist in disseminating his messages across broader areas especially Soundwave, a communications engineer stationed at the same mine as D-16. His works called for reform in the name of democracy and freedoms. His followers would identify themselves as Decepticons for how deceptive and secretive they had to be to avoid tipping off the authorities.

My take on Orion and D
