I turned 30 today. Alone
I turned 30 today. No party, no cake, and fewer than four wishes. Even my roommates forgot. I kept thinking about the birthdays that once meant midnight calls, wild party nights, multiple cakes with different friend groups and endless Instagram stories to reshare. Today was almost completely silent. I didn’t think it would bother me, but somewhere inside, it did. Maybe not because I wanted a celebration, but because I suddenly realized how much life has changed.
At some point, the friend circle got smaller and the worries got bigger—rent, career, money, work stress, health, hair falling out, aging parents and figuring out the future. People who were once part of your everyday life slowly became memories, and everyone got busy surviving their own lives. The saddest part of growing older might be that nobody tells you when the good old days are ending. You only realize years later that you were already living them. Maybe turning 30 is learning to miss who you were and the people you had, while still finding the courage to be grateful for the life that remains.
