Can I learn on an 8 string

I’ve been wanting to learn guitar for a long time and recently decided to act on that. One of my favorite bands is Deftones (along with many other bands with such a heavy guitar presence) and I know they play on a 8 string for most of my favorite songs. I know a 8 string is hard for a beginner and I could play many of my favorite songs on a 6 string, not to mention how long it will take to learn to make the most of an 8 string, but a lot of these songs are the reason I want to learn in the first place. Would it make more sense to get a decent 6 string and then get a nice 8 string? I honestly don’t know much about guitars, would it even make sense to have 2 electric guitars anyways? I would love to hear the input of a more experienced player.
