Hanging it up!
I, like many of you (I’m guessing), never imagined this is how my breast feeding journey would go.
Baby was born at 37 weeks so was sleepy and then was jaundiced on top of that, making him more sleepy. He wouldn’t latch for anything. I worked my BUTT off with a lactation consultant to work on latch and supply. I did literally everything under the sun to make more milk. I never did make enough to meet his needs, and he never did transfer efficiently so exclusively pumping and formula supplementation became my life except for the rare latch to comfort babe.
Around 4 months, I decided 6 months was my goal and I reached that last week. I started slowly weaning about 3 weeks ago and I’ve been down to 1 PPD for about a week. I don’t feel full or engorged tonight and I’m realizing that this is really it, I’m nearly at the end! My emotions are all over the place. I made it to 6 months and I’m proud of that, but I can’t help but feel I could have tried harder, gone longer, done better, etc. I did not expect to feel like this, especially since my pumping journey is ending on my own terms!
Anyways… I’ve learned a lot in this journey and I’ll always stand by this: exclusive pumping is an insane sacrifice and we’re ALL badass for doing it, for any length of time, for any reason. This sub has been such a great resource along the way!
