Using the site of a drowning in a sponsored campaign video about drowning.

Politics

I hate FB, so I wasn’t going to watch the video a friend sent me that had randomly shown up in their feed (sponsored?). But when I realized it was a Langford council candidate, I decided to take a look.

The premise is noble: working with schools, the city, and other partners to provide upper elementary kids with swimming lessons to help prevent drownings. Amazing.

The backdrop used, however, was incredibly insensitive: the dock at Langford Lake where a student lost his life as a result of drowning just two summers ago. I can’t imagine how his family, friends, and rescuers will feel when this video pops up on their feeds. I feel literally sick about it.

Did she not know? Or did she know and do it anyway?
