I found my personal massager in my daughters room when helping her clean

Advice Needed

Hello!

I need some advice. I would like to think of myself as a very understanding and sexually mature person. I have no issues about answering my teenager and preteens questions about sex and really try to not make the topic of sex taboo with in reason. People have it, it’s nature, but I explain why their bodies are not ready and how at a young age being sexually active can be harmful both mentally and physically.

On to the issue. I like most women have some toys. They remain in my room, in a drawer. They aren’t anything crazy and honestly being as busy as I am I haven’t used them in a long while and don’t open the drawer regularly. I was cleaning the trash out of my daughter’s room and found a toy. She’s 12.

I did have a conversation with her. I didn’t shame her though to be honest she looked terrified. I was more upset that she violated my privacy and went through my drawers than I am mad that she was curious. At the end of the day though, she’s a little girl.

So parents of Reddit, I am asking for some help. This clearly needs a deeper conversation. I’m not mad, I’m just really taken aback and I don’t have a mom to ask. I’m not looking for religious advice. I want to make that clear. She’s still very much a kid though and acts like it and I want her to understand that her body isn’t ready for that.

So help. Where do I start, what should I really hammer on or avoid? I don’t want her to feel like she can’t talk to me but I need to know how to be firm about this.

Thanks!
