Just started and I love it. Tips + my story

DISCLAIMER: I may be speaking too soon, but I just want to help some people who may be scared.

Just wanted to come on here and give some hope to those who haven’t started law school yet, and remind them that although it’s difficult, and will become increasingly more difficult, it’s also a place where you can find great people and learn things about yourself that you wouldn’t be able to anywhere else.
I’m only starting my third week, and yes, it is hard, it is stress-inducing, and extremely time-consuming, but making friends is a lot easier when every single one of you are under the same amount of stress. Please, don’t be the person that no one wants to befriend because you’re an arrogant asshole who thinks they know better than everyone. On the other hand though, be aware of who’s only trying to befriend you to take advantage of you. Not everyone wants the best for you— most people actually probably want the worst for you— but that shouldn’t deter you from making genuine friendships with people who you’re going to have to see for the next 3 years of your life. If you don’t have good discernment skills, work on it starting today.
I’m someone who wanted to pursue law my entire life, but in my last year of undergrad, I was slowly giving up. I didn’t really know what I wanted to do in life, but I did know that this was something that I wanted for a really long time, so I’d better at least try. I ended up getting a decent score on my second LSAT and got into a pretty decent school as well. I will say, though, if you’re not doing this for yourself (parents, friends, significant other, etc.), you will hate it, and you most likely will not do well unless you have insanely good study habits and have 0 history of depression. The weeks have gone by pretty quickly. It’s been 2 weeks (excluding orientation) but it’s felt like 2 days. Some people are extremely nice and are there to make friends along with getting their JD, and some people don’t care if you live or die, and would probably prefer the latter.
I guess I want my final message to be do not get too scared. Yes, it is scary. There are going to be people who do better than you, there are people who are going to be smarter than you, and there are going to be people who work harder than you. The good news is, the opposite of that is true as well. Enjoy your time. Do your readings. Write good notes. Write your briefs. Reread your briefs. Know what you’re going into every class. But don’t kill yourself trying to do it. Almost everyone is struggling, you will too, and you will be okay.
Good luck to all those applying, and good luck to those who have already started law school. And good luck to myself! Cheers.
