Dinner is homemade ramen with cured beef<3

My friend (25F) keeps getting back together with her evil ex (39 M). Here is some history

First of all, he messaged her on instagram when she was 19 and he was 33 or maybe 34. For me personally, it’s okay i guess to have an age gap, but not to actively seek out 19 year olds when you’re in your thirties.

They have been together since then, so for a very long time, but they have broken up three times with 5-6 month gaps.

He lives an hour and a half away from her, in another city, and they see each other once a week. He does not wanna move to her city, and she doesn’t want to move to his because his city doesn’t have a lot of opportunities.

They never do anything nice, unless it’s her initiative. Surely, maybe he did one or two things in their whole years of being together, but its 90% her initiating any proper dates and trips (where she often pays and makes the complete itinerary).

His life plan is “my boss is going to let me inherit his estate one day because he doesn’t have any kids”, while he works a job that keeps him tied in that city, with no prospects of a promotion.

There was once a cheating suspicion. He had texted a coworker to stop being flirty with a guy, in a way which seemed like he was being jealous. He never accepted anything however, even when confronted.

He hasn’t told his family about her, not even his sister. Actually, he went out of his way to hide her when his sister passed by the cafe they were sitting at one day.

He doesn’t want us hanging out with her because we “fill her head with ideas”.

She wants to get engaged or to at least move in together, while he has no prospects for that and always puts off the conversation.

In the times they’ve broken up, she has dumped him because of his lack of interest to take the relationship to the next level. But she was also the one to always ask for him back.

She keeps asking us for advice, we tell her the advice but she ignores it. Then she asks me to do tarot readings and love spells (i don’t even do spells??) and the readings are always bad. Always.

I don’t even know what to do anymore. I just want to shout and tell her that she’s wasting the best years of her life for a guy who doesn’t deserve it. If anyone has ever dealt with a similar situation, let me know how to best handle it. Do i just let it run its course? Is there any better advice i can give when she asks me? I never tell her anything beyond of what she asks me (i used to before, but now I’ve come to know better) but im also never dishonest when she does ask me. I understand that loving someone can be a toxic cycle and its very difficult to break it off, but how is *she* not exhausted, nevermind we.

How to help/stop a friend who gets back with her evil ex?
