I had a summer fling and it feels like I’m never going to get over it
I (22F) moved 17 hours away from home for work this summer and had the absolute best time. I fell in love with a boy (26M) there. He’s extremely kind, treated me wonderfully while I was there and we agreed on everything from politics to controversial topics.
A few times over the summer (after I initiated a conversation) he told me he’s not sure how he felt about long distance. Regardless, nothing changed in how we interacted with each other.
A week and a half before i left to go back home he told me that he loved me. He cried when i left, asked for my location to make sure i got there safe and we consistently called/ texted every day that i was home. We even planned to meet halfway and do a weekend trip two months later.
A few days into me being gone, i called and we talked about what we were. He told me that he didn’t want long distance (canceled the trip too) but that he still wanted to call and text. I told him that he could not have me halfway and he decided on not talking at all anymore.
Fast forward a couple days after that and I feel at an absolute loss. I am grieving leaving my summer job with all of my wonderful new friends and more intensely, the relationship with him. I haven’t felt this way for someone else since I was probably 16. It feels like I’ll never get this feeling again, like I was led on and that he was using me for good company. I feel sick everyday, can’t focus, can’t eat and I’m constantly checking my phone to see if he might’ve decided to text me. I feel so lonely now. It feels like there’s not a single person at home that cares for me like he did while I was there.
How do I get rid of this feeling? Will this go away? How do I not let this breakup ruin my idea of returning to my old work?
TLDR: Breakup due to long distance and now no contact. I’m feeling helpless and extremely lonely. What do I do?
